Als Schützling des Bauhaus-Gründers Walter Gropius verkörperte Marcel Breuer viele der charakteristischen Konzepte der Schule und war einer ihrer berÅ±hmtesten SchÅ±ler. Kurz nach seiner Ausbildung im Bauhaus kehrte er dorthin zurÅ±ck, um von 1925 bis 1928 Holzhandwerk zu unterrichten; in dieser Zeit entwarf er auch seine Kollektion aus Stahlrohrmöbeln: funktionell, schlicht und ausgesprochen modern. Sein Interesse verschob sich spÓ“ter in Richtung Architektur und nachdem er zunÓ“chst privat praktiziert hatte, arbeitete er dann unter GrÓ§pius als Professor an der Harvard's School of Design. Das Metropolitan Museum of Art ehrte Breuer auf ganz besondere Weise, indem es ihm als erstem Architekten eine eigene Ausstellung widmete. Der Wassily Stuhl erhielt seinen Namen, weil Wassily Kandinsky am Bauhaus sein Zimmergenosse war, während der Cesca Stuhl nach seiner Tochter Francesca benannt ist.
